Memoranda by Skipper. Whilst fishing to the North of Horn Reef on the 3rd June at 3am we sighted a steamer, thinking she was in a dangerous position we towed towards her & found it was the Mary of Riga ashore on the reef & discharging her cargo we launched our boat & went on board her, the master informed me he had been there all night it was then 6O;clock. We offered our services which the master at first thought was useless but afterward accepted on conditions that we pulled his vessel all day to try and get her off for 50 & if successfull to receive 100 .
