Memoranda by Skipper. On Friday December 11 1891 we sighted the four masted ship William Tell flying signals of distress . We bore down to her & succeeded in taking nine hands out of her & then laid by her all night. The following morning as the weather had moderated the ships warp was placed on board of us & we commenced to tow, when towards evening owing to heavy weather & his crew refusing further duty the captain deemed it advisable to abandon ship. We then took him , his officers & pilot off board & proceeded to Hull arriving Sunday evening December 13 1891.
