'Influx' of new Orchestra players; Poor audience attendance at concerts; Performances by Jack Brymer, Colin Horsley; and Lydia Artymiw; Guest conductors were Meredith Davies; Richard Hickox, and Nicholas Smith; Performance of Sir Marmaduke Strickland-Constable's 'Lyric Suite'; First joint presentation between the Society and the City Council Leisure Services Department featuring the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra; Sponsored Concerts featuring London Mozart Players with Henry Szeryng, and another featuring the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra sponsored by National Westminster Bank; Coming season to be the Society's Centenary; Centenary Brochure currently being printed thanks to Chairman's efforts; November Concert to feature Rafael Orozco and to be conducted by Maurice Handford; February concert to feature Shura Cherkassky, Anne Collins, Richard Baker, and Peter Goodman, conducted by Terence Lovett; May concert to be a performance of Beethoven's Choral Symphony with Hull Choral Union, the Orchestra to be under the baton of Richard Hickox; Hazlewood Foods to sponsor the BBC Symphony Orchestra Sponsored Concert; Counter-attraction during the centenary season posed by the visit of Opera North to perform 'The Bartered Bride'; Sponsored Concert Dinner to be held to mark the Centenary and a Centenary Dinner to be held at the Guildhall; Resignation of Trevor Thomas as Honorary Secretary and appointment of John Watson; Jonathan Cole acted as Assistant Orchestra Secretary.
