Sponsored Concerts Correspondence Files

Reference No:
C DSPH/3/3
Dates:
1970-1989
Description:
Contains correspondence files relating to the Hull Philharmonic Society 'Sponsored Concerts' scheme and arrangements for these concerts. The scheme was established in 1970 following an appeal by Mr Harold Needler relating to the benefits of exploiting commercial patronage and sponsorship in order to attract orchestra's and artists of national and international repute, and the first Sponsored Concert was held 27 Jan 1972. The concerts were supported by the establishment of the 'Sponsorship Fund' created from the proceeds of commerical and industrial sponsors signing Deeds of Covenant, each lasting seven years and being a minimum of £20 per annum. The Sponsored Concerts Fund was administered separately from the rest of the Society's business and its accounts were kept separate from the Society's main accounts. Note that there may be some additional correspondence relating to arrangements for sponsored concerts within the main Season Correspondence Files C DSPH/3/1.
