Description:
Draft constitution of the Hull Philharmonic Society titled 'Proposed Resolutions'. Note that each resolution is initialed 'Passed A.S.A' [Algernon Sidney Ayre, First Chairman of the Hull Philharmonic Society formed 1881]. Resolutions include: 'That a Society be formed for the private & public performance of orchestral music at Hull to be called the Hull Philharmonic Society'; Subscriptions to be 1 guinea per annum, year ending 31 Mar; Conductor, Secretary, and Treasurer to be appointed; Conductor to appoint four amateur musicians to act with him as a Committee for the early election of performing members; Committee to have power to add to its members; 'no person be elected as a performing member of the Society until he has satisfied the Committee of his thorough efficiency'; Committee may elect performing members without requiring annual subscription; Society meetings to be arranged so 'as not to interfere with the working of Existing Societies'; Rehearsal meetings to commence first Saturday in October and close last Saturday in March; Rehearsals to be held in rooms lent by Gough & Davy on Saville Street and to commence at 5.45pm and close at 8pm; Notice of inability to attend rehearsals to be sent in writing to Conductor; At the close of the first year an Executive Committee be chosen 'to make new Rules & to direct the future movements of the Society'; That Officers shall consist of a President, Vice President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Conductor, and Executive Committee.
