- Dates:
- May 1975-Oct 1978
- Description:
Mr Oliver was originally appointed by the Society as Child Care Officer in 1968. He was from the West Riding of Yorkshire. (See Ashore and Afloat Oct 1968, p. 12 for a brief biography).
It appears from the letters in this bundle that the Registrar of Shipping informed the Society's Welfare Officer of any seamen that died at sea whether in the Royal or Merchant Navy or fishing fleet. The bundle includes an index of those offered help, along with the date and their address. During this period the Society supported over 400 children throughout the United Kingdom in their own home. They made a weekly allowance which was paid through the bank to widows on a quarterly basis. They also made an allowance of clothing twice a year
