- Reference No:
- C DSSF/1/3/14/3
- Dates:
- 27 Mar 1979-27 May 1980
- Description:
- This file includes correspondence between the Society and three independent organisations receiving and resettling the 'Boat people' on behalf of the Government; the Ockenden Venture, the Save the Children Fund and the British Council for Aid to Refugees. The Ockenden Venture was responsible for resettlement in the West Midlands, North Wales, North West England and parts of the North East. The Yorkshire area was designated to the Save the Children's Fund. The file also contains a leaflet entitled 'The Refugee Child' published for the UK Association for the International Year of the Child, 1979. This leaflet details the work done in the UK to support refugees, especially children. It appears from the correspondence that the Society did not take any refugees in but steps provision was made for them to provide aid to Vietnamese families in the UK by providing clothing, food and occasional holidays
