On 21 Jul 1948 a policy was adopted by the City Architect and the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Housing Committee with regard to the retention of Air Raid shelters on Corporation Housing Estates. The summary of this policy is included in this file.
This file also includes a 45 page list of applications for the retention of non-reinforced type brick domestic surface shelters. This list simply lists Housing Estate addresses, not the names of tenants.
This file also includes a plan showing an ARP concrete shelter (built for 6 persons, with 15" thick main walls 4" thick diding walls and a height of 6ft 11" overall as well as the distance from the dwelling ), by William Morris, City Engineer
