Amongst those considered were Rev. Wardlaw of Glasgow, Rev. Henderson of Highbury, Rev. Thorpe of Bristol, Rev. James of Birmingham, Rev.Redford of Worcester, Rev. Arundel of London George Brown of Clapham, Rev. Bolton of Henley, Rev Luke Foster of Blackburn and Rev. Robert Ferguson of Glasgow. The church were then asked to consider the appointment of Rev. Thomas Stratten who had recently resigned his charge at Sunderland.
