Recalls hearing the sirens and going with her mother to the shelter and hearing the bombs drop and children crying in the next terrace. When it was quiet her father made a fire and a cup of tea for everybody in the street.
When the All Clear sounded the air raid wardens and police came to tell them they had to evacuate as there was an unexploded bomb in the street. She also remembers the railway lines and the sawmill were on fire and going to the nearby church until it was safe to return home.
