- Recalls going into the air raid shelter and that one night a bomb dropped in her street. When she went out she found that she could not get into the house because of damage and obstructions and so went to the Chapel instead. When she did return to her house she found it was full of soot. She says 'it was never going to be quiet for the guns were going one after another' and that she thought she was never going to come out of the shelter alive.
