Recalls going into the shelter one night when she heard a whistling and laid on the ground until it passed. When the school caught fire all of the men used stirrup pumps to put the fire out. They were looking for Mr Homeward to get into the building when a wall fell onto a man and he was taken to hospital by an ambulance.
After the All Clear she went looking for shrapnel and found a shell. One night an incendiary bomb fell in the street in-front of her brother who 'got a bag of sand and put it out'.
