- Letter from Winifred Holtby to Vera Brittain - Edith and Margaret de Coundouroff; Alice, David and Winifred motored to Bridlington to see Ann and Grace Morrison, came back via Rudstone, describing visits to some old employees, Frank; supper with Aunt Anne and Robin Holtby at Driffield; met Harry Pearson on the way back; Sherar Vines had broadcast about Inheritancewithout reading it, but praised 'Land of Green Ginger' more, Winifred cross about this; had to give a bankrupt relavative À40 to stop bailiffs taking his race horses, he has some old furniture and Alice Holtby going to collect some for Winifred, the relative lives the other side of York, married into the 'County', lives beyond his means, keeps a racing stable, hopes to run the horses at York and sell them to clear his debts, his aristocratic wife is in an asylum [this relative presumably the blueprint for CARNE in her later novel 'South Riding']
