Description:

For 21 years at £25 rent: Edward Vavasour of Spaldington, esquire, to Barbara Chace of South Cave, widow. Manor and capital messuage called the East Hall with orchards, gardens, dovecote, coney warren, a windmill and its soke, 16 oxgangs arable, 19ac. salt meadow and his part of Wedlay Woode on the N. side of the way through the wood to Beverley; which he had by will of his father John V.: All courts and other perquisites of the manor reserved to E. V.; also the Great Chamber and the Chapel Chamber. E. V. and his heirs to have lodging in the manor for three days before and three days after Trinity Fair yearly during the term. B. C. to pay 40s. to E. V. whenever he is charged to set forth a light horseman to serve the Queen; to help him with a wagon in South Cave and Weedley; to 'ryde or goe' as often as reasonably required; not to meddle with the timber in Wedelay Woode; to deliver to E. V. 100 kids yearly in the wood for maintenance of Weedley hedges; and to have hedge-bote and plough-bote. If she die within the term then E. V. may grant the unexpired portion to one of her sons, Thomas Monckton or William Chace, as he sees best. Witnesses Rauf. Grene, Robert Aske, William Wright, Thomas Gattes.
