(1) Gift in frankalmoign. Eudo son of Britannicus, with the assent of his heir and friends, to the abbey: all his services and dues in Dictona. See U DDBH/3/63 (47) ([1158-1184])

(2) Confirmation. Alan, son of Roald constable of Richmond, to the abbey: gift of Eudo, as U DDBH/3/63 (1), and the gift in frankalmoign, by Alan to the abbey of all lands retained in his own hands in Dictona. See U DDBH/3/63 (48) ([1158-1184])

(6) Gift in frankalmoign. Sir Thomas Baudwyn to Simon, abbot of St Mary's and convent: croft, toft, two bovates, cultivated parcels called Pighel and Rughtwayt, with all appurtenances in Dictona except a road to the North which he has given in fee to Roger de Weston from part of the toft. Nicholas son of William de Holteby citizen of York, to Simon, abbot of St Mary's, and convent: 5ac. in a cultivated parcel near le Suthyate; a toft lying between the town of Dighton and the highway; an assart (37 1/2ac.) in the field towards Eskcrick; and a toft called Fulsik ([post 1264])

(55) Demise as U DDBH/3/63 (9). For 17 years (i.e. until the end of the statute between the abbey and Sir Hugh de Nevill): William free to remove at the end of the term any buildings erected by him in the toft. Witnesses John de Selby in Eskrik, Thomas de Laskels in the same, Roger de Burg in Dighton, Adam son of Nicholas de Fulford. St Martin in Winter 1264 ([11 Nov 1264])

(56) Arbitration Award as U DDBH/3/63 (10), by John le Franceis, John prior of Bolton, Hugh de Louthyr, John de Snaynton, and (Sir) Harstulph de Cleseby: Sir John to quitclaim to the abbey the herbage and wood of the close of the said chapel, saving the rights of Escrick church and of the successors of Sir J. in the church. The abbot may build a house within the close, but no chapel is to be built within the close (as of old enclosed by ditches) for six years from the date of the Award. Thereafter the abbot may build a chapel there, saving the rights of Sir J., his church and successors to the chapel, close, herbage and growing trees. Sir J. to return to the abbot's manor in Dighton the bells, images, glass windows and timber removed by him from the chapel. And for having done this against the will of the abbot, Sir J. shall put himself in his mercy to the extent of £20 sterling; of which the abbot will release him of 15 marks (£16.13s.4d.): Given at St Mary's, York; Morrow of St Peter in cathedra, 1305 ([23 Feb 1305/06])

(57) Proceedings of Justices itinerant at York, referring to arbitration (as U DDBH/3/63 (56)): a suit brought by John, abbot of St Mary's against John de Merkenfeild, parson of Eskrik, John Hard of Elvington, chaplain, Thomas de Fehouse of Escrik and others for forceable entry into the chapel in Dighton on Tuesday after Mich., 33 Ed. I, (5 Oct 1305) and removal of a crucifix, images ('Marie & John & une ymage de Seinte Elene & ses seyns') and glass windows. Thurs. morrow of Purification B.V.M. 1305. In £10: Geoffrey the chaplain, son of John de Fulford, to John, abbot of St Mary's, and convent: G., having been impleaded in King's Bench by his sister Osmunda (as U DDBH/3/63 (13) and U DDBH/3/63 (58)) for a toft, croft and 20ac. in Dighton and, in his great necessity, having sold his interest in the premises to the abbey during the proceedings, now binds himself in £10 which the abbey may levy if he has to render the premises to her.
