- Believes his father is not as well as he was on his previous visit, observes a certain apathy in his character that was not previously there. Aunt Margaret's state of health confuses Charles, as she often fancies that she is at deaths door. Charles visited Mr Hugo Smith and writes of the beauty of his daughter. Mrs Gage and one of her daughters leave tomorrow for Paris to join Mr and Mrs Nookwood.
