Charles gives Raleigh advice on surviving in his regiment. Tells him to always have his knowledge ready to depend on. Describes some of his own experiences in the regiment. Details his current worries of democracy. Writes of a dance he attended with 200 of the town's people, 40 of which were 'mad'. Mary writes of an accident involving Mrs Boulton's son, Charles. Describes the weather.
