Agreement between Richard son of Simon son of Geve of Glentham and Robert de Totel

Reference No:
U DDEV/44/44
Dates:
15 Dec 1342
Description:
Recites that Richard is bound to Robert by a statute merchant in £50; that he has quitclaimed to him a messuage, watermill, 55ac. land and 16ac. meadow in Westrasen and all other lands and rents in Westrasen and Glentworth which Robert had by reversion, and which belonged sometime to Thomas de Graynesby, uncle of Richard; and that Robert has granted to Richard a yearly rent of 7 marks from the premises. Robert now grants that the statute merchant shall be null and void if he enjoys peaceful possession of the premises for life, and his heirs for 10 years thereafter, without interference from or through Richard. Richard grants that if there shall be any such interference in that period, then the rent shall cease and the statute merchant be in full force. Witn. Sir Robert Breton, Amond de Tathewell, William de Greddyk of Luda, John de Lound of Lincoln, Stephen de Totel, Richard de Grayton, clerk. Given at Ludam (Louth), sabbath after St. Lucy virgin 16 Ed. III. Seal, armorial, a saltire between 4 (chess-rooks?) 'SIG. ROBERTI. DE. TOTEL'
