Description:
In 1640 Sir Thomas Metham presented the present incumbent, acting as trustee for Sir Philip Constable who had the advowson but could not exercise it, being a convicted papist; but Archbishop Neile refused to institute him in spite of an Opinion of Judge Hutton. While the matter was in debate 'the late troubles ensued' and the incumbent 'being beloved of the Neighbourhood was admitted by the Parish'. Should he have a new presentation, or be instituted upon the old?
