Advice on B.T.'s health; Parliament sworn in; social gossip (London 23 October 1707); Cannot come to Escrick; his post is to be secretary to a gentleman 'that goes envoy into Spain;' finance; is going 'to Salop' to see his mother; 'tomorrow my Pastoralls goe to the press. Everybody likes them.' (London 30 December 1707). 'Still on this side of the water...the Courts does not think fit to dispatch us yet'; believes will go by land to Genoa and will pass one night 'with a certain Lady'; some scurrility; the 'State Quacks say...a very great Crisis will break out;' but A.P. dare say no more; encloses 'my first tryal at Blank verse' (missing); Pastorals printed but will not be published till towards Easter (London 10 February 1707/8). Account of his conversation in an inn; has written to Mr. Steel (Harwich 15 September 1709). Has reached Harwich; friends. (Harwich 11 December 1709). Reference to Addison and Steele and to a new play at the Haymarket; drinking (a postscript to previous letter?). Sir John's marriage; 'we turn night into day and day into night here, living in one continued Round of Pleasure;' social gossip (11 February 1710/11). Asking B.T. to be one of his sureties as 'Lord Halifax has this day been pleased to make me pay master to one of the Class Lotteries' (25 January 1716/7). Is to accompany the Lord Primate of Ireland to that country 'who will provide for me;' asking for a loan; 'shall pursue my great work at every vacant hour;' 'I am a Young active fellow still' (13 August 1724); with copy of a note for £50 sent to him by B.T. and a memorandum of sums loaned to him (1724).
