Copy letter from Capt. Hotham (?), Christopher Wray and Thomas Hatcher, Darlington, to Lord Fairfax

Reference No:
U DDHO/1/13
Dates:
23 Nov 1642
Description:
They have marched on the troops of horse round Darlington who have withdrawn to Durham. Hope this will delay Newcastle's march south, perhaps all winter, the roads now being bad. Have beaten down Peirce Bridge. The Richmondshire trained bands get up very slowly, nor are they considerable in Cleveland. Neither have been used in this action though the Bishopric forces might have prevailed if their hearts had been up to their numbers.
