- Description:
(1) "Sketch of the Debts against Jas. S. Junr. & his Estates as they appear to have stood at the time of his Decease" c.1799. Includes those with legacies payable from or against the estates; those owed money for work or products e.g. bookkeepers, butchers; also occasional references to enslaved people, e.g. "Jno. Clarke supervisor for Dido £3.-.1/2". It is unclear what this payment was for, but Dido was a name used for at least one enslaved woman on the Scarlett plantations. Also in 1799, under Green Vale contingencies, "Mr James work house release of Juliet £6.5.11" and "Trelawney work house release Damon £6.8.4".
(2) "General state of the debts & demands upon it of the estate of J[ohn] Libert & all the Incumbrances that seem to affect Peru & G. Vale Estates". Covering approx. 1788 (Libert's death) to 1797. John Liburt was the father-in-law of James Scarlett sr.
(3) "Arrangements for the discharge of the Debts [affecting] the properties of J S Junr." Lists mainly bonds and annuities due under both the previous owner (Libert) and James Scarlett.
(4) Notes on payments made from the estate, including "To Munro for Negroes, 3,500 £ in Bond payable in July 1st 1800".
