File containing circulars sent by Reverend A.P. Hutchison relating to the creation of a handbook for Port Chaplains of the Missions to Seamen, a copy of a version of the handbook used by reader W.S. Storrie, document 'Standing Orders relating to Stations and Staff', circular and enclosed revised Standing Orders sent to chaplains and readers by Reverend K.R. Good in 1980. Includes references to: plans to produce a handbook for chaplains having been considered for many years, originally mooted by Dawson; Tom Kerfoot and John Rowlands being responsible for developing training programmes for chaplains; each handbook issued to be numbered and allocated to a specific chaplain, and a register of the same to be kept at head office; handbook issued to individuals, not branches or stations, and to be returned to head office upon retirement or resignation of port chaplains; subjects covered in the handbook being the shipping industry, the port parish, merchant seamen, mission and ministry, the church and its ministry to seamen, the Missions to Seamen port chaplaincy work methods, the Missions to Seamen individual work units, the Missions to Seamen publicity fundraising and appeals, problems relevant to our special ministry, partners in ministry and kindred agencies, the slop chest, addendum for port chaplains and readers in charge.
