Trench as General Superintendent of the Missions to Seamen, relating to considerations as to whether the Missions to Seamen and the British Sailors' Society should amalgamate. Includes references to the following: pressure to work together in some ports such as Falmouth and Vancouver; influence of economic pressures caused by depressed shipping, as well as influence of the opinion of HRH the Prince of Wales; conflict between spiritual work of the Missions to Seamen and other considerations of the British Sailors' Society; constitutions being at odds with each other re amalgamation; impact on trusts and funds; conflict between Anglican and interdenominational approaches of the respective societies; view of the Anglican church that Missions to Seamen is not simply a society but a part of the Church's work with 'her sailor sons'; past work towards co-operation; specifics of situations at Falmouth and Vancouver; interview with the Archbishop of Canterbury on 29 Mar 1935.
