Mainly a discussion of his disillusionment with literature and life, feeling that nothing one does can alter one's 'life - force', and that great men have great energy. Refers to Dickens and particularly D. H. Lawrence as part of this discussion, with mention of 'Sea and Sardinia'. Briefly discusses two books on Renoir and Toulouse - Lautrec. Also refers to Ruth Bowman; his library examination; and being frustrated with the family. (6pp). Contains two illustrations of Larkin's head, entitled `Larkin by Renoir' and `Larkin by Lautrec'.
