The letter is a dispirited one lamenting the lack of Christmas cheer. It mainly discusses a book (unnamed) on D. H. Lawrence by Murry (John Middleton Murry), leading Larkin to consider literature in relation to life and what he should do after leaving Oxford; and Jung in relation to jazz and Carl Lehmann.. (12pp.) Contains an illustration of Larkin showing Sutton some drawings he (Sutton) sent to Larkin. '9' written on the top of p1. The back of the final page has a note written on it: "Merry Christmas (if possible) and happy new year. Colin" [Gunner?]
