Play by Anthony Minghella about a pregnant student returning to her home town and the relationships between the various female characters. First performed at the Gulbenkian centre at the University of Hull, Whale Music is considered Minghella's first theatrical success, and was the first of his plays to be performed in a London theatre in April 1981.

It was subsequently broadcast by ITV on 12 July 1983 and was featured as Play for Today on BBC Radio 4 in October 1985 with Juliet Stevenson among the cast.
