- This correspondence predominantly relates to the preparations for the sale of the estate by the Duke of Newcastle and a suggested exchange of land between the Duke of Newcastle and the Duke of Portland. Many of the letters are written from the offices of Sir J. Whittaker Ellis (the auctioneer), of Farebrother, Ellis, Clark & Co. A letter dated 8 Aug 1890 gives the names of people who bought lots after the auction.
