Typescript copies and summaries of letters from various sources. These include USPG [United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel] Archives Book I (1850-59), 'McDougall Papers, Rhodes House', Basil Brooke Papers, Rhodes House and 'Extracts from Bunyon's Memoir'. Also includes photocopy of entry in Colonial Church Chronicle and extracts from Bishop F.T. McDougall and Harriette McDougall's journals and Harriette McDougall's 'Sketches of our life in Sarawak'.
The majority of the original letters were written by Bishop F.T. McDougall and Harriette McDougall with one by W.N. Nicholls. The recipients include Revd W.T. Bullock, Charles Bunyon, Revd Ernest Hawkins, Ellen Robson, Eliza Bunyon, Brooke Brooke, Bishop F.T. McDougall, Frances Colenso, S. Clark, Esq.
The range of topics covered include domestic, missionary, school and political affairs, including efforts to secure the use of a ship for travel in the region and an attack by Chinese gold miners on the Rajah and European's houses.
The letters were written from a number of locations including Singapore, London, Sarawak, Santubong, Forncett St Mary, Norfolk, St Asaph (Denbighshire), King Weston (Bristol), ships 'Alfred' and HMS Spartan, Calcutta [Kolkata], Borneo and Penang.
