Typescript copies and summaries of letters from various sources. These include USPG [United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel] Archives Book II (1860-67), 'McDougall Papers, Rhodes House' and Basil Brooke Papers, Rhodes House. Two copies of speeches by Bishop F.T. McDougall made in 1870 and 1874 are also included.
The original letters were written by Bishop F.T. McDougall and Harriette McDougall.
The recipients include Revd W.T. Bullock, Charles Bunyon, Fanny Sawyer, Mrs Bunyon (Harriette's mother), Revd Ernest Hawkins, Ellen Robson, Eliza Bunyon, Sophy McDougall, Nelly [Ellen] Bunyon, J. Brooke Brooke, Secretary of S.P.G.[ Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts], John Grant and Charles Grant.
The range of topics covered includes domestic, missionary, school and political affairs, including the ongoing difficulties that Bishop F.T. McDougall and Harriette McDougall were having with their health, financial matters and their efforts to return to England.
The letters were written from a number of locations including Singapore, Sarawak, Santubong, Steamer 'Rainbow', Pinang, Labuan and P & O Steamer 'Baroda'.
