Records of the Hull Town Council Citadel and Foreshore Committee

Dates:
1858-1860

Description

Admin History:
This committee was initially called the Garrison and Foreshore Committee but by October 1858 had been renamed the Citadel and Foreshore Committee. It was established by the Town Council in May 1858 in order to investigate the purchase of the ground comprising the garrison and foreshore in Hull. The corporation then became involved in a legal dispute with the Crown over the right to sell the land. The committee appears to have been wound up in December 1861 after the Town Council lost the first stage of its legal battle and the subsequent decision not to appeal and incur more cost.
