Admin History:
Messrs George and Thomas Earle Ltd, Wilmington established their cement business in 1809. The business was carried on by George Foster Earle, son of George Earle until 1913 when his grandson, John Hudson Earle took over. The business was eventually taken over by John Hudson Earle's son, George Foster Earle. In 1907 the Company brought out their famous Medusa Water Proofing Compound, famous throughout the cementing world. The controlling interest of Humber Portland Cement Co. Ltd was acquired by the Company in 1923. In addition to their main line of output, Earle's Cement also manufactured Mastic, Light Roman Cement and coloured cements of all kinds. The Company was eventually wound up in the late 1960's.
