- The company was originally founded in c.1870 by Mr G H Lennard. In 1882 the company was taken over by Messrs. John Hall and Harry Hamlyn. The company produced a wide range of products made from Indian rubber and leather. The products included sports equipment (i.e. cricket bats, lawn tennis rackets, balls and shoes) and waterproofed items such as coats and fishing and wading boots. The company also produced a wide range of bags and Indian-rubber surgical goods. They also dealt with some finer lines including the production of carpets and linoleum floor clothes. These products when coupled with the endless variety of sundries allowed Hall and Hamlyn to develop extensive trade links over a large portion of the United Kingdom. They were also known to export goods to foreign countries. Their premises included 40 and 41 Waterworks Street, 8 St John Street and a leather works in Osborne Street, Hull. Within these properties were contained some manufactured mechanical goods including driving belts and rubber valves for land and machine engines. The company were in operation until c.1972.
