Description

Admin History:
Saint Thomas Raynor (1817-1900) was born in Lincolnshire but moved to Hull, where he opened a tailors shop in 1862. The trade directory for 1863 indicated his shop was at 19 Trinity House Lane. By 1876, he had been joined by Phillip Thomas Crook (1845-1930) from Cholsey in Berkshire, described as a master tailor, in a joint venture. In 1882 the business moved to premises on the upper floor of 18 Trinity House Lane and that is where it was to remain until it closed in 1974. Grandson of the founder, 70-year-old Bryan Hole decided to retire and to wind the business up, primarily because he had been unable to recruit younger people to continue the work. During its many years of operation, Raynor’s and Crook's had won several awards for its tailoring business, right up until the time it closed down.
