Description

Admin History:
The origin's of Hall's Barton Ropery go back to 1767 when William Hall began hemp spinning and rope making in Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire. The family run business would go on to service the Hull and Grimsby fishing industries until the switch to steam and steel cables resulted in the business' near collapse. As a consequence it was reformed as a private limited company, in 1890. In 1891 the decision was made to move into the business of making wire rope and as a consequence Hall's acquired Overton's Wire Rope Works in Beverley. It also moved it's head office to Hull but this was destroyed during World War Two, resulting in the loss of most of the company's earliest records. After the war, the company would go on to develop new products and continue for many more years until changes within the industry resulted in severe economic difficulties. It was taken over by Bridport-Gundry in 1986.
