Description:
Jonathan Dove was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy. He was also the father of Elizabeth Dove who married Thomas Sissons Snr (1783-1867) in Feb 1808. Jonathan Dove served his country during the Seven Years War, the War of American Independence and the Napoleonic Wars. Included in this bundle is a letter dated 11 May 1807 to the Navy Board written by Dove from Market Weighton, Yorkshire giving a detailed account of his career. Also included is a letter from H. Wardle Hall (The Vicarage, Melton-by-Lincoln) to 'Jack' concerning Commodore Doves' reminisences dated 15 Oct 1828; Letter from Geo. French, Lieut. Commander, certifying John Dove, served as Surgeon on board the Basilisk dated 10 Nov 1815, a letter Certifying Mr. John Dove served as a midshipman onboard his Majesty's ship Sterling Castle, a letter to the Surgeon concerning the ordering of medicines for the ship Basilisk from Charles V. Penrose, (Commodore and Senior Officer of his Majesty's Ships and Vessels in Gibraltar Bay) dated 16 Sep 1812. More information about Jonathan Dove is available at C DBSS/2/3/1
