- Description:
- Sissons Brothers obtained their supplies of whiting for many years from quarries which they owned at Barton-on-Humber in Lincolnshire. The whiting mill pictured is 'Bank Mill', at the northern end of Waterside road in Barton. It was owned by various millers, the more important being David Cobb and, from around 1922, the Sissons Brothers. Such mills were closed down after the second world war when the old wet edge-runner, water levigation and drying oven process was superseded by dry-grinding with a Raymond rotary hammer mill in Hull. Although Bank Mill was eventually demolished, some of the other buildings can still be recognized today
