Admin History:
William Henry Heap Hutchinson was born in Bury, Lancashire in 1819. Sometime in the early 1840s he moved over to Hull because by 1845 he was listed in the local trade directory as a general merchant. He had also established regular sailings to Rotterdam. By 1851 his listing in the trade directory was as merchant and commercial agent. 1858 saw listing as a merchant and shipping agent. 5 years later saw Hutchinson becoming a ship owner. Although Hutchinson died in Hull 1877, his son continued to run the business until 1894 when the shipping ownership aspect merged with C.L. Ringrose to create the Hull and Netherlands Steamship Company. The remaining company continued as forwarding agents and shipping brokers until the 1920s.
