What would later become Methodism first came to in Hull in 1746, and developed into 4 different strands; Wesleyan, Primitive, New Connexion and United Free Methodists, each with their own circuits. These eventually came together in 1932. For a fuller history on the different Methodist Churches and Circuits, please see our guide to the Methodist Church in Hull, as only the briefest outline can be included here. For example, the Portobello (Primitive) Methodist Church opened in 1906 and was demolished in 1984. St George's Road (Primitive) Methodist Church opened in 1873 and closed in 1966. The International House was established in 1961 by the York and Hull Methodist Church as part of a chain of student houses.

St Silas Church was consecrated in 1871. The last service was in 1967 and it was demolished in 1969 after a fire the previous year.

St Thomas Church was opened as a temporary church 1873 and fully consecrated in 1882. It was damaged in the war and demolished in the late 1940s.

The Unitarian Church on Park Street was first registered in 1881, replacing an earlier church on Bowlalley Lane.

The City Temple, on Hessle Road, was constructed by the Elim Pentecostal Church in 1933, and closed in 1989 after the church moved to Princes Avenue.
