On the 17 Feb 1950 a Ministry of Education order was issued for the sale of stock and in 1951 plans were drawn up by F.J. Horth and H. Andrew, Architects, for the construction of a new school building in Whitworth Street. The foundations were laid by the Earl of Scarborough during a ceremony on 21 May 1955 and a year later on 20 Dec 1956 a coat of arms using the motto 'Constans Fidei' was granted. The new school was officially dedicated by the Lord Archbishop of York and opened by the Earl of Halifax during a ceremony on 8 Nov 1957. From 1957-1969 it operated as a secondary modern school before being redesignated as a junior high school in 1969, and again redesignated as a primary school in 1988.
