- fl. 1838-1989. A Headmaster who reversed the decline in the schools conditions and standards. Despite being the first non-clerical and non-university head, Sollit made a considerable impact on the school. Most boys left at 14 years of age and often spent only 2 years at the school. The teaching of classics and Latin declined, although Sollit provided an education appropriate for the sons of tradesmen, clerks and other lower professional men in the town, who were not aiming for university. The 2 photographs are reproductions of prints and there is an accompanying letter
