- These items were collected by John Atkinson, who first joined the Labour Party when he was just 15. He would later become an agent for Alan Johnson, MP for Hull West and Hessle when he first arrived in East Yorkshire. Atkinson became a councillor on Hull City Council by winning the Stoneferry ward by-election in 1981, and went on to represent the Derringham, Boothferry and finally Pickering wards before his retirement in 2002. He was made an Honorary Alderman of the city the same year. He sat on many council committees and served for 17 years on the Housing Committee, 12 of which as deputy chair. He died in April 2009, aged 87.
