Admin History:

King George V, and his wife, Queen Mary, when as the Prince and Princess of Wales, visited Hull in 1903. As well as visiting Hull Royal Infirmary and attending a civic reception, they also unveiled the statue to Queen Victoria outside City Hall.

Dan Billany, (1913-disappeared in 1943) was a Hull born author, teacher and soldier. After leaving school and becoming an errand boy and an electrician, he gained a scholarship to Hull University College. There he gained a degree in English and became a teacher at Chiltern Street School. Billany immortalised his class at the school in the book 'The Magic Door'. On the outbreak of World War Two, Billany joined the army and was eventually captured in Italy where he disappeared after escaping capture. Three books written by Billany during this period were subsequently published.

Lee’s Rest Homes, created to provide accommodation to retired people in Hull, were founded by Charles A. Lee and opened in 1915.
