- Edward (Eddie) Jones was born in 1911 and attended Osborne Street School in Hull. He was called up in June 1940 and joined 'D' company of the 4th Battalion Border Regiment in 1940. He was posted to Egypt in 1941 and India in 1942. He was reported killed in India 1943 and buried in Calcutta (Bhowanipore) Cemetery, Kolkata. Marjorie (Madge), who lived in Hull during this period, had several of her letters to Edward returned with 'deceased' and 'It is regretted that this item could not be delivered because the addressee is reported deceased'.
