The Witwal was built by W.H. Warren of New Holland and described as a steel lighter. It was registered by John A. Scotts, who identified themselves in the 1914 Kelly's Trade Directory as lighter owners, wharfingers and warehousemen and were registered at 11 High Street, Hull.
