- Jack Scotter was born in 1895 and later joined the St. John's Ambulance Corps. During the World War 1 he was posted to the Royal Army Medical Corps, (RAMC). He was serving on the hospital ship, H.M.H.S. Egypt when it crossed the Equator. As it was his first Equator crossing, he was involved in a traditional ceremony to mark the occasion.
