Created by The Anlaby Road Workhouse Board of Guardians and presented to Sidney Mathias who was born in 1856 in Ratcliffe a district of London. In the 1881 census he was in Hull as master of the trawler the 'Greyhound' aged 25. He married in Hull in 1881 and remained in the city for the rest of his life. In the 1891 census he was again aboard ship in St Andrews Dock this time as master of the ' City of Wakefield'. In 1901 he was living in Hawthorne Avenue, and in the 1916 Trade Directory he is listed at 348 The Boulevard and is secretary of The Port of Hull Trawlers Fisherman's Protection Society, West Dock. By 1921 he was a Fish Merchant at 23 Sterling Street and in 1925 had moved his business to St. Andrew's Dock. In 1929 the business becomes Mathias & Son Fish Merchants and home is once again 348 The Boulevard.
