Description

Admin History:
The British Transport Commission was founded in 1948 as part of a programme of nationalisation. Its responsibility was to oversee the railways, canals and road freight in Great Britain. The Transport Act 1962 abolished this Commission which was divided into several successor companies. One of these, the British Transport Docks Board (BTDB) inherited the docks. In 1981 under the Conservative government the new Transport Act enabled the privatisation of the British Transport Docks Board (BTDB) which became Associated British Ports (ABP). There is no indication of this latter change within the documentation.
Description:
The collection includes accident books for Victoria Dock, King George Dock and Queen Elizabeth Dock. A scrapbook of newspaper cuttings relating to BTDB and other organizations.
