Description

Admin History:
Sculcoates Swing Bridge was built to replace a wrought iron swing bridge in 1853. Located beside the 1853 bridge, Sculcoates Swing Bridge was built by Harman and Langton of Hull to cope with the increase in rail traffic, while the north-side of the bridge carried foot traffic. Better known today as Wilmington Swing Bridge it opened 10 May 1907, becoming a part of the London North Eastern Railway, Victoria Dock Branch, whilst providing better connection with the Hull/Hornsea Railway. The line is now disused. The bridge is now a footbridge spanning the River Hull. It became Grade II listed in 1994.
