This seriescontains records relating to the Hull Branch of the Women's International Zionist Organisation (WIZO). Past presidents include Rita Rosenberg, who also served as longstanding Treasurer of the organisation. The Women's International Zionist Organisation was founded in England on the 7 July 1920 by Rebcca Sieff, Dr Vera Weizmann, Edith Eder, Romana Goodman, and Henrietta Irwell. It was dedicated to promoting the cause of social welfare in all sectors of Israeli society through the advancement of education, improvement in the status of women, and the provision of orphanages and childrens homes. In 1949 the headquarters of the organisation were moved from London to Israel following the establishment of the state of Israel. Regional branches such as the Hull branch undertook fundraising and awareness activities to aid the work of the organisation in Israel.
